Mymensingh Division was first created in 2015. Before that, it was included with the northern part of Dhaka Division. Mymensingh is the capital of Mymensingh Division. It has an area of 10,485 square kilometres with a population of 11,370,000. Mymensingh Division consists of four districts. They are:

Mymensingh has a rich history of print media. Bharat Mihir was one of the oldest newspapers published in Mymensingh during the colonial British Raj. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, a lot of weekly and daily newspapers were published from Mymensingh. Banglar Darpan a weekly newspaper was first launched in 1972. In 1979, Banglar Darpan was converted into a daily newspaper titled Dainik Jahan. A woman’s monthly was also published from Mymensingh named Chandrakash for almost a decade. Some other newspapers published were Dainik Ajker Bangladesh and Dainik Ajker Khabar.
